Percentage Calculator — FAQs

How do I calculate X% of Y?

Multiply: (X ÷ 100) × Y. So 20% of 200 = 0.20 × 200 = 40.

How do I find percentage increase?

((New − Old) ÷ Old) × 100. From 50,000 to 58,000: (8,000 ÷ 50,000) × 100 = 16%.

What is reverse percentage?

Finding the original before a % change: if ₹160 is the price after 20% off, the original was 160 ÷ 0.80 = ₹200.

Why do successive discounts not add up?

20% then 10% off isn’t 30% off — the second discount applies to the reduced price: 0.8 × 0.9 = 0.72, i.e. 28% off.
