The short answer

₹10,000/month in NPS from age 30 to 60 at 10% builds roughly ₹2.26 crore. You must annuitise at least 40% — that’s about ₹90 lakh buying a pension near ₹50,000/month at current annuity rates. Plus you get an extra ₹50,000 tax deduction under 80CCD(1B).

How to use the nps calculator

  1. Enter monthly contribution and ages.
  2. Set expected return and annuity share.

NPS Calculator — FAQs

How much pension will NPS give me?

It depends on corpus and annuity rates (~6–8% currently). ₹1 crore annuitised at 7% gives about ₹58,000/month.

What are the tax benefits?

Up to ₹1.5 lakh under 80C, plus an exclusive extra ₹50,000 under 80CCD(1B). Employer contributions get separate deductions too.

Can I withdraw NPS early?

Partial withdrawals allowed after 3 years for specific needs (capped). Full exit before 60 forces 80% annuitisation.

NPS vs mutual funds?

NPS is cheaper (tiny fund fees) and locks money till retirement — great for discipline, bad for flexibility. Use both: NPS for the pension floor, mutual funds for the rest.
