The short answer

Grades A (4.0), B+ (3.3), A− (3.7) across 4+3+3 credits = (16 + 9.9 + 11.1) ÷ 10 = 3.70 GPA. Credits weight the average — a 4-credit A moves your GPA twice as much as a 2-credit one.

How to use the gpa calculator

  1. Enter each course as grade:credits.
  2. See your weighted GPA.
  3. Add semesters to track CGPA.

GPA Calculator — FAQs

How is GPA calculated?

Each grade maps to points (A=4.0, B=3.0…); multiply by credits, sum, divide by total credits. Higher-credit courses weigh more.

Weighted vs unweighted GPA?

Unweighted caps at 4.0; weighted gives extra points for honours/AP courses (up to 5.0). Colleges usually recalculate their own way.

What GPA do I need for good colleges?

Highly selective: 3.7+. Most state universities: 3.0+. But GPA is one factor among tests, essays and activities.

Can I recover from a bad semester?

Yes — later semesters with more credits dilute early damage. Consistent improvement also tells a good story.
