What is a good typing speed?
40 WPM is average, 60 WPM is good for most office work, and 80+ WPM is professional-grade. Accuracy matters more than raw speed — aim for 95%+ accuracy first.
How is WPM calculated?
WPM (words per minute) counts every 5 characters typed — including spaces — as one ‘word’, divided by the minutes spent. Errors reduce your net WPM.
How can I type faster?
Learn touch typing (all fingers, no looking), keep wrists neutral, and practise 10 minutes daily. Speed follows accuracy, not the other way round.
Should I prioritise speed or accuracy?
Accuracy. Fast typing full of errors forces constant corrections, which is slower overall than steady, accurate typing.
